Are you interested in the forces that have shaped the objects, images and buildings which form our world? And are you curious about what it will look like tomorrow? Do you enjoy writing, analysing and discussing concepts?
Study Visual Culture at NCAD and develop your understanding and knowledge of the history and theory of art, design, architecture, fashion, film and digital culture in the setting of a leading art and design college.
Taught by some of Ireland’s leading art and design historians and critics, the programme supports students in analysing and interpreting the images and objects that define contemporary life, while developing strong writing and communication skills.
Several modules are delivered in collaboration with organisations including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the National Irish Visual Arts Library, the Dublin International Film Festival, and the National Gallery of Ireland, as well as many other dynamic arts organisations across the city.
NCAD offers the BA Visual Culture as a full-time and part-time programme. The part-time route allows mid-career professionals or those exploring an interest in visual culture, to balance study with other commitments. The full-time route offers an additional optional year of study after second year, where students can take studio-based art and design classes at NCAD; study abroad through the Erasmus programme; or undertake accredited work placements in arts organisations.
Our graduates work in arts, cultural and heritage management, in journalism and the media, in exhibition curation and education, and in festivals and event organisation. The creative industries employ over 80,000 people in Ireland, offering our students multiple opportunities.
