Archive in Motion: The Ethics of Data Decay and Format Obsolescence in the Paul O’Neill Archive
Modern archives face mounting ethical dilemmas, in no small part due to the increasing amount of digital material being produced and recorded today. Rebecca’s research examines the impact both data decay and format obsolescence have on digital records, and the challenges these add to maintaining ethical standards within archiving. Her writing details the practical manifestation of this within the Paul O’Neill archive at IMMA, and through further case studies she explores possible solutions and pragmatic compromises.
Digital archiving continues to grow in relevance globally and is an area in need of further research and education efforts. Rebecca plans to work in and contribute to this field through collaborative engagement with international archives and in completing postgraduate study in Archive and Records Management.
