Care as Craft, Craft as Resistance

Beth’s research explores the forms of care embedded within craft practices. Focusing on both historical and contemporary women-only intentional communities, she examines craft as a practice that nurtures human connection to produce spaces where people can feel safe, communicate openly, and freely express themselves through language, dance, and somatic body movement.

Her thesis centers on Emergent Soundsystem, a workshop organised by the founders of ‘Synthesize_her’ and ‘Concept Null’. The workshop encouraged the FLINTA (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender) community to come together to build their own sound system. Within this context, Beth's research delved deeper into the issue of gender inequality within the Dublin music scene and how FLINTA communities generate their own sources of sound to create inclusive dance spaces.

In collaboration with her classmates, she has organised The Body is The Only Site, a performance, dance and improvised sound event which will take place during NCAD Works 2026, and will explore the body as a living form of artistic expression.
