Held In Place
Inspired by the quiet unfolding of the seasons and the gentle healing rhythms of nature, the soft colour palettes and fluid forms within this collection of paintings explore moments of stillness, renewal, and calm.
Each piece reflects a sensory response to light, bloom, and the subtle seasonal transitions found in the hills and woods of Wicklow. Rather than depicting landscapes directly, the paintings evoke the feeling of being immersed in nature: fresh air, soft skies, and the hush of the natural world awakening.
Using acrylic paint on plywood, alongside underdrawings made with charcoal gathered from woodland fire remains, the wooden surfaces are intentionally left visible and imperfect. This highlights the morally complex tension between commercial forestry, human needs, and environmental responsibility.
At its core, the project is about hoping for healing while continuing forward, one mark at a time.
