Tega Ubogun is an educator and mixed-media painter based in Carlow and Dublin. Her current body of work explores the role of the protagonist by constructing situations in which objects, spatial relationships, and cultural familiarity contribute to an inherent meaning rooted in the artist’s local surroundings.
Multiple layers of paint and digital collage are used to create these environments. Through gesture, body language, and compositional movement, the protagonist navigates tensions between familiarity and alienation, and between light and darkness, within domestic settings.
The compositions, often structured using one-point perspective and read from left to right, aim to guide the viewer through a carefully staged arrangement of atmosphere and psychological tension.
