Emotion Located Within Gesture
This body of work explores visual representations of isolation, self-comfort, and healing following the loss of a loved one. I create my work by photographing myself or a model in gestural poses that convey grief — for example, a figure curled up in the fetal position, or a model rubbing her eyes or fixing her hair in an attempt to convey self-comfort as they navigate their new reality.
I transpose the selected photographs into drawings before engraving them onto a glass surface. I use a self-developed process of glass erosion on flashed glass.
I would like to express a special note of gratitude to stained glass artist Evan Connon and his staff for their continued support and sponsorship throughout this project.
