Reflections of Self in Nature

My work focuses on nature and how it illuminates the seen and unseen aspects of humanity. My process begins with photography as a form of journalling walks taken near my home in Kildare. Once I select my images, I use CAD processes to extrapolate aspects of local flora and fauna. I integrate watercolour drawings and other elements from my practice into these images, which are then encapsulated within glass shrines. In this way, I create a visual journal that reflects my emotional responses during these walks, often interrupted by the ever-present visual beauty and calmness of nature.

I choose to embed my imagery within what I term a “glass shrine” as a means of sharing, in an abstract way, my celebration of living. Each work is laminated, ground, and hand-polished. The highly polished surfaces exploit the refraction of light and direct the viewer’s attention toward the internal imagery contained within.
