Do Monsters Like to Dance?
For my recent work Do Monsters Like to Dance?, I created a stop-motion animation inspired by films I grew up loving as a child. The work has a gothic, slightly gloomy tone with nods to classic horror throughout, while still maintaining a heartfelt, feel-good ending.
I made the sets and characters from whatever materials were available to me. Building the puppets and sets was very fulfilling, as it allowed me to see my vision come to life, and I feel they act as vessels for the story I wanted to tell. I then animated the work frame by frame.
I have always wanted to make stop-motion animation, as I admire its human, tactile quality. This is the kind of story I have always wanted to tell: one I would have loved to have seen as a child, and one that would have made me feel seen.
