Wear Yourself Out
Wear Yourself Out is a twisted form of self-love. This collection revolves around the discomfort I feel towards my own appearance: the fear of cameras and the hope that mirrors and reflective surfaces might return an image I recognise.
Through researching myself by means of self-portrait photography as a form of exposure therapy, I wanted to produce a body of work that could be interpreted as a version of myself comfortable with being photographed — a form of myself that I can appreciate, discovered through the crippling hatred I have felt towards my physical appearance.
Utilising the culture of photography, paper manipulation, VHS tapes, and my own body, this work becomes an emotional expression of my relationship with myself.
