Cutting Through the Flow
I am inspired by the ink marbling technique “suminagashi” as a snapshot of movement. The moment paper is pressed into the ink pattern, a specific instant in time is captured. A few seconds earlier or later, there would be a completely different pattern on the page. The ink exists at the mercy of its environment, shaped by external forces and internal rhythms.
My work is a series of cylindrical pieces inspired by suminagashi, using various methods to convey a physical snapshot of internal energy and flow.
