Still Bleeding

Still Bleeding is a dive into the lived experience of endometriosis, channelling physical pain into intuitive bursts of painting. The passages of contrasting painting styles represent the mercurial nature of life with a chronic illness.

It touches upon aspects of chronic illness such as social isolation, medical negligence, and feelings of abandonment by the Irish health system. The visceral and raw depictions of the body aim to immerse the viewer within the phenomenology of endometriosis.

Through the pain, hope emerges through subtle and allusive gestures of mechanical imagery: a possible future where the synthesis of the human body and machine technology offers freedom. The work reveals a dual sense of hope and desperation, with the “cyborg” presented as the only possible means of escape from a sick body.

“Although I am now standing, I am still bleeding.”
