Ripple
This project centres on developing considered responses to everyday challenges through a user-focused design approach. It explores how thoughtful interventions can improve daily experiences while addressing broader social needs.
The project investigates menstrual product accessibility in Ireland, focusing on the lack of immediate access within public spaces and the stress this creates. Despite increasing public conversation surrounding menstrual equity, access within shared environments remains inconsistent and often overlooked.
Ripple is a public bathroom unit that integrates both the dispensing and disposal of menstrual products within a single system. By addressing access and disposal simultaneously, the design responds to practical and behavioural needs that are often treated separately.
The final outcome positions menstrual care as an essential public service rather than a private concern, helping to reduce the inconvenience often associated with managing periods in public spaces while supporting a more inclusive and responsive environment.
