Embodiment
What makes a space a sanctuary?What makes a space a sanctuary?
How long must we spend in a space before it no longer feels safe?
What turns comfort into claustrophobia?
I have created an offering — an altar to my body and my bedroom — both of which have, at times, comforted and trapped me. The spaces we inhabit witness our most intimate moments, from tears of pain and frustration to moments of joy and light.
Combining video, projection mapping, and installation, I explore themes of illness, isolation, and otherness. The video incorporates personal history, while portals to an inner world emerge throughout the work. The altar installation is created from items taken from my bedroom; after a period of convalescence and isolation, it can feel cathartic to invite the world in.
