MAMAzine: My First Year Too

Mothers often sacrifice who they are to provide love and care to their children. Years roll on without the pause and reflection that their body and mind so often desire. While a child grows within the first year, reaching exciting milestones, the mother also experiences growth.

MAMAzine is a zine workshop for postpartum mothers. It focuses on reflection during the first year postpartum, documented through the zine format. The workshop was hosted by myself, Kotrina, with a group of mothers, where there was room to be free, express, create, and most importantly, have fun and be intentional within the zine-making process. With no creative experience required; it was an intentional evening of creating while engaging in discussions that provided comfort to those who felt they were alone.

Providing a sense of community was of utmost importance, as it was something that helped keep me sane during the postpartum period.
