...This is not my body...
My research project interrogates concepts of distortion and the corruption of self-image. From my research findings, I created a series of sculptural mixed-media works. Each work explores deeply emotive, visceral feelings surrounding body horror and beauty: amorphous, corporeal forms that represent profound inner vulnerability, extracted from the body and made physical.
My work is inspired by the writings of Jenny Hval and William S. Burroughs, the films of David Cronenberg, and further horror media such as Bloodborne and Berserk, narrowing in on what separates the self from the body, and where one draws that line.
Craftsmanship is another vital component of my practice. The expansion and refinement of my skills fuels my motivation to continue producing work that challenges my abilities. I have combined techniques from various disciplines, including glass kiln-casting, lampworking, and hand-built ceramics, to create this body of work.
