The Hindrance

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is widely familiarised, but heavily misunderstood as the term itself is misleading. Emphasis is placed on hyperactivity, with little demonstration of the more unpalatable realities of burnout, low self-esteem, and isolation.

The Hindrance highlights the conflict between a chaotic brain and the expectations of the adopted nine-to-five culture. Through the medium of clumsy, satirical comedy, this project is a light-hearted depiction of a variety of collected personal testimonies, satirising the ADHD experience through the character of DAVE, a chaotic, free-forming creature whose purpose is seemingly to aid in the downfall of its host, the protagonist of the film.

This project personifies ADHD, through motion picture, costume, and character design allowing us to hear its side of the story. It offers a new perspective not only on how ADHD interferes with conformity, but how conformity disrupts the value of ADHD.
