The Wool Wardrobe

The question is: “How can the wearability, and by default, commercial viability, of Irish-grown wool be enhanced through design-led material innovation and processing techniques to support its reintroduction into contemporary fashion and textile design?” The Wool Wardrobe aims to showcase the versatility of wool, specifically in relation to wearability.

This project aims to define and explain WHY wool has the "itch" factor. It begins with the scientific reasons for the differing levels of coarseness. Through the use of four Schema Mapping systems, I aim to articulate and illustrate The Scientific Wool Wardrobe, The Geographical Wool Wardrobe (countries and breeds), The Wool Processing Wardrobe, and finally a layering of garments to illustrate The Contemporary Wool Wardrobe. The main focus in all four of these systems will be the levels of itch factor and where Irish-grown wool can be integrated to support its reintroduction into contemporary sustainable fashion design.
