Designing for Agency in AI Interaction

My major project explores how conversational AI is becoming embedded in everyday experiences of uncertainty, particularly in emotionally and socially ambiguous situations. As AI systems become increasingly integrated into everyday life, they are shaping how users interpret interactions, seek reassurance, organize thoughts, and approach personal decision-making.

The project focuses on moments where people turn to conversational AI for clarity, emotional validation, or support before acting. These interactions raise questions around dependency, confidence, reflection, and the role interaction design plays in shaping people’s relationships with AI systems.

Through this work, I explore how interaction design might encourage more reflective and self-directed engagement while preserving personal agency and a sense of ownership over decisions. The project investigates alternatives to seamless AI assistance by creating space for reflection, critical thinking, and more deliberate decision-making.
