Tribute to Fergus

Heidi McGrath is a multimedia artist. Heidi’s work is usually based around emotions and complex experiences that come with them. The piece is meant to represent the revisiting memories of a loved one after losing them. The inspiration of this piece was from Heidi’s childhood dog, that had been put down in March of last year.

Through a series of moving images you get to see Heidi’s perspective of how they go through the past and how it affects the present. In the main video, Heidi often leaves a large empty space next to themself to show the loss of the dog without physically showing him leave. The spirals are to represent the mental and emotional spiral while dealing with complex emotions such as grief.

The videos are supported by prints of still image mixed-media pieces that are made to represent a memory “frozen in time” as it stays still compared to the active memories, being the videos. The first still image is a picture from the day Heidi had first got Fergus. The second still image is the last ever photo Heidi would get to take of Fergus.
