Eve O’Dwyer

A Brief Case
Eve uses humour and provocative visual language to explore and subvert the power dynamics that shape painting’s position within the contemporary art world.
Using paper, masking tape, and cardboard to create miniature objects, and collaging key artistic references with her own work, these low-fi processes form the starting point for her painting practice.
Grounded in the studio and the white cube, the work is interior in nature, making it integral to Eve’s process that all imagery is conjured within these spaces.
Through colour field painting and a naïve application of paint, Eve explores painting’s material potential. She utilises the opposing forces of object and image, and figuration and abstraction, in pursuit of new routes into and out of painting. The work aims to evoke the energy of a thought before it is fully materialised.
