Cú
Cú is an installation consisting of a three-channel video piece and laser-etched leather pieces. The video piece displays the characters of Cú Chulainn and his charioteer companion, Láeg Mac Riangabara, in a contemporary context. The fluid depictions of gender and family networks in 'An Táin Bó Cuailnge' are adopted in the narrative, to present a form of love that transcends conventional friendship. Both dogs and automotive vehicles are used to describe how technologies evolve and influence each other within networks. The car is taken as the contemporary chariot, alluding to petro-masculinities, and to the car as a site of intimacy and privacy during a housing crisis, as well as a potential safe space for queer people. The mythical ‘heroic soldier’ in patriarchal masculinities is explored with shibari ropework and fetish aesthetics, which act as a language to describe patriarchal identities.
