Namm Na La

Namm Na La brings together three woven sculptural works that explore nostalgia, grief, and cultural identity. Translating to “I miss you” in Wolof, the title reflects the emotional core of the project. Each piece is constructed from fabrics and plant materials sourced from my grandparents’ home, where I was raised.

This body of work serves as a means of reconnecting with that space following experiences of change and loss. Through weaving, I engage with memory as both material and process, created within the home itself.

Together, the three sculptures weave together materials that have been present in my home since childhood, including garments worn by my grandparents and plants gathered from the back garden. Incorporating colours and fabrics connected to my Senegalese heritage, the resulting forms function as a map, tracing the intersections of upbringing, place, culture and personal memory through materials and weaving.
