Underflow

Underflow explores the shifting threshold between the conscious and unconscious through sustained encounters with coastal landscapes and the sea. Working through slow, responsive processes, I employ oxidised copper, ink, charcoal, graphite, fabric, and moving image to construct layered surfaces shaped by drift, erosion, and material transformation.

Emerging from moments of immersion within tidal environments, the work traces states of stillness, surrender, and flow. Thalassic flora, tidal pull, refracting light, and weathered textures recur throughout the installation, surfacing through corrosion, staining, loose gestural marks, and repeated acts of material manipulation. By allowing time, environment, and process to guide the work, Underflow considers the unconscious as a fluid and liminal terrain, one that is entwined with the elemental movement of the sea and the quiet psychological states reached through acts of making.
