Renewal in Ruin
Renewal in Ruin explores the heritage and cultural memory silently archived within derelict sites and buildings. This collection challenges the notion of deterioration as loss, rather it aims to view it as a process that reveals a hidden ancestry through texture and colour. It seeks to blend history and modernity, using fabric as a means to translate this ever developing urban conversation.
The core of this collection is the construction of an immersive world shaped by decay, memory and preservation, where each textile contributes to a wider narrative.
Using long-lasting and natural fabrics like leathers and linens, combined with handcrafted, artisanal and traditional techniques, the work aims to push the boundaries of textile surface design, creating fabrics that change over time, developing a conversation, on and with the body, aging in tandem with the lived experience, just as our built environment ages with us.
