Anima Mundi
'Anima mundi' is a Latin term meaning ‘world soul’. It refers to an intrinsic and vital force that permeates and connects all living beings, in the same manner that a soul animates a human body. My work aims to articulate the divine essence and spiritual intelligence of the natural world. I aim to critique the dismissal of nature as a backdrop to human civilisation, and to visually magnify the space between what we see and what we feel.
Through acknowledging this shared spirit between all life and my own, my work aims to question the prescribed individualism of mankind, and highlight what is shared. I am influenced by the work of Donna Haraway on ‘More-Than-Human’.
My practice lies at the intersection of holding space for collective grief for atrocities committed globally, and how to create a framework to allow ourselves to acknowledge this pain, and engage in mutual emotional catharsis.
