Interiorisation of the Outside

My work blends digital and analogue mediums to create abstract paintings that explore the texture of skin and the emotional tensions within the domestic sphere. Approaching the work through a gendered lens, I use digital manipulation and gestural paint marks to produce forms that embody the unavoidable strain of the female domestic experience. I use my multi-media process to explore the connection between the home environment and bodily sensation. This involves interpreting the physical structure of the home as a ‘veil’ that conceals a home’s inner workings. Bodily, this is reflected in the functions of skin as both an external boundary and an absorber of atmosphere.

Interiorisation of the Outside encapsulates the damaging cycle of emotional flux that our collective culture continues to uphold through the prioritisation of patriarchal dominance within the family and relationships.
