Orbital Tension
My work explores the interconnected relationship between engineering, art, and natural forces. Coming from both a technical and creative background, I am drawn to the tension that exists between these fields of study, while also recognising how deeply connected they are. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, I see invention, mechanics, and artistic expression as part of the same creative process.
'Orbital Tension' is a kinetic ceramic sculpture combining textured wave forms, suspended stars, and a moving moon to explore energy, gravity, and motion. The surface textures reference erosion, tidal patterns, and the movement of the sea, while the physical movement of the sculpture reflects the invisible forces that govern natural and mechanical systems.
Influenced by Denise Romecki and Theo Jansen, the work investigates how texture, form, and movement can express the tension and connection between engineered structures, artistic practice, and natural systems.
