The Decline
Local pubs are closing down all over the country. Since 2005 over 2,100 pubs have closed in Ireland, a decline of 25% over twenty years.
The local pub serves as a social space and a community, a place for gathering where everyone is welcome. I choose this topic because the local pub that I work in, has seen a major decline since 2019. Busy Friday nights have now become only four customers which made the owner think is it time to sell?
Responding to this decline over a campaign, booklets, a video piece and a publication, this project highlights the importance of community and draws attention to the need of the local pub.
