Linked Lives
Linked Lives is a textile installation that explores the relationship between me and my twin brother, Daniel, and the different gender roles and environments we have grown into. By observing the tools and machinery we each use in everyday life, I developed shared motifs that reflect both our similarities and differences. Colour plays an important role within the work; green tones represent me and my eyes, while brown, silver, and rust tones represent Daniel, his eyes, and the industrial materials connected to his world as a fitter.
My process combines natural dyeing, needle felting, embroidery, and fabric manipulation. I use soft textures and fibres to represent my own environment, contrasted with harder and more industrial materials that reflect Daniel’s.
This project explores identity, duality, and individuality, showing how twins can develop into different people while still sharing a deep unbreakable bond. Through material, colour, and textile processes, the installation becomes a reflection on connection, difference, and the lasting bond between two lives that continue to grow both together and apart.
