Forgotten Voices

I explore the Irish revolutionary period through the lived experiences of ordinary people. This work is influenced by pension and medal applications, reflecting on the long aftermath of service; where official recognition was often delayed or withheld. I am interested in the disconnect between national memory and lived experience, how sacrifices have been reduced to paperwork.

Working with worn fabrics, and reconstructed pockets, reminiscent of makeshift uniforms, I utilise hand-stitch and machine free-stitch to explore ideas of repair, endurance, and recognition. Burned, torn, and mended surfaces hold a fragmented narrative of handwritten archival material, allowing official records to shift into something more intimate and human.
