Bigger Than Man
Bigger Than Man is an immersive sculptural installation exploring the devastating effects of the global overfishing industry and humanity’s increasing dominance over the natural world. The work is built around the base of a beam trawler with an interactive net for viewers to physically enter and move around in. By stepping inside the net, participants can view the world of how damaging this industry has on the planet, symbolising both humanity’s entanglement in systems of exploitation and the helplessness experienced by marine life trapped within industrial fishing practices. The exaggerated scale of the net reflects how the pursuit of money, power and mass consumption has grown beyond human control. What was once a tool for survival has evolved into a destructive force capable of emptying oceans.
