Filling the Void

My work explores the circle and oval, the void inside them, and the idea that this space has as much value as the solid material form. I’m looking to create a balance between what is present and visible and what is not there, the emptiness - a space to be filled with something, maybe a thought, a body part, light, or air.

My creations have manifested as wearable sculptural objects inspired by industrial components and organic matter, where clean-cutaway lines are coupled with flowing curved edges and angular geometric forms. My process of using materials has been guided by the philosophy of Anni Albers, who believed that being creative is 'listening to that which wants to be done: the dictation of the material.' For me, this meant allowing the physical properties of copper to guide me.

I have also drawn inspiration from the architect Frank Gehry’s structural boldness and the rhythmic, sculptural language of Hans (Jean) Arp, Barbara Hepworth and Tony Cragg.
