Materiality
My practice revolves around exploring the materials I work with; learning their boundaries and then how far they can be pushed. I initially started working in ceramics then added bronze and glass. These were all hard materials but required very different considerations and treatment in a process I thought of as a dialogue.
Around 2020, I pivoted to explore textile making methods, using mainly wool due to environmental concerns. This included wall work and 3D sculpture, as wool is an incredible versatile material. A project creating felt jewellery led me down a path to explore metal jewellery making techniques and other mixed media materials and I returned to education to extend my range of materials.
Pieces in this show were based on an exploration of the various materials and how they could be combined, with influences from 1960s and 1970s Scandinavian design.
