Unsupervised
Unsupervised examines the realities of modern girlhood, focusing on the discomfort often concealed beneath romanticised nostalgia. The work recalls fragments of a space where youth was exposed, far too early, to toxic ideas surrounding femininity, unsafe interactions, and a growing desensitisation shaped by constant media exposure.
Borrowing from the visual language of the 2000s, the project moves through a personal blog, sculpture, and magazine. Overstimulating visuals reference the chaotic nature of online spaces, while the magazine dwells on the pressures young girls faced to become desirable. This content, once dismissed as a toxic remnant of a past culture, is now recycled and sustained by the growing digital dependency of the younger generations.
At its core, the work is a personal reflection on the lasting effects of exposure, and how those experiences quietly shaped my identity and self-worth into early adulthood.
