Artist Talk: ...This is not my body... with BA (Ceramics) Hard Materials graduate Jo Frehe.

The …This is not my body… project interrogates concepts of distortion and corruption of self-image. Through researching, Frehe created a series of sculptural mixed media works. Each work explores deep emotive visceral feelings around body horror and beauty; amorphous, corporeal forms that represent the most inner vulnerability, expressed from the body and made physical.
Inspired by the writings of Jenny Hval and William S Burroughs, the films of David Cronenberg and further horror media such as Bloodborne and Berserk; …This is not my body… focuses on the abstraction between the self and the body, what separates them and where we draw the line between them.
Frehe's emphasis on craftsmanship through glass and ceramic techniques continuously challenged their abilities to create more refined work.

In this talk, Frehe discusses these themes and details the techniques involved in creating this work, including, glass kiln casting, lampworking and hand-building ceramics.
