BA Fine Art Sculpture and Expanded Practice - Live Performance: 'everyone is secretly expecting that something beautiful will happen to them' with graduate Jack Galligan. Time: Saturday 6th, 1PM.

Jack Galligan is an artist concerned with performativity. He makes sculptures, videos and performances that speak to the rehearsed nature of everyday life. He uses his own experiences to capture the uncertainty of being a young person and the performative potentials within this state.

Drawing from his (mis)understandings about the art world and his prospects as an artist, his latest work is about anticipating something unknown. He knows that expectations are premeditated disappointments, yet he is fascinated by how we always hope for the best.

Manifesting as an installation of sculptural objects that act as sites of expectation, the work exists between states of staged presentation and erratic impulse:  A stage is dressed with a red curtain, and a Hoover vacuum runs in the background. A diving board sags in open space, and a performer stands on the edge.

Expectations are set, and something should happen.
